Fix It Broken.

We would have been quite geeked about the debut issue of lit zine Fix It Broken based on the mere fact that it features a collaborative piece between long-time TBWCYL, Inc. favorites Barry Graham and Peter Schwartz, but imagine our excitement when we learned that each issue will feature a Fashionable Fiction winner whose story will be turned into a T-shirt. Awesomeness. Just the idea of it has changed our lives.

The Gift. In Minimal Books. In Polish. And freaking cool.

It is freaking coolness. Piotr Siwecki and his crew at MinimalBooks have translated our story The Gift into Polish and it is now available starting on page sixty of the October issue of MinimalBooks along with work by longtime friends and TBWCYL, Inc. favorites Corey Mesler and Peter Schwartz among others. We couldn't be more appreciative or floored by this and we most definitely hope you will take a look. This is turning into a very fine week indeed and today we are happy to let you know about an interview between TBWCYL, Inc. spokesperson Ben Tanzer and the kick-ass poet Peter Schwartz that is now up at the Orange Alert. This interview was timed to come out in conjunction with his terrific new chapbook Old Men, Girls, and Monsters from the always stellar Achilles Chapbook Series. This is a most excellent collection and while we do not want to pre-empt your reading pleasure we have posted some excerpts below regarding our take on the collection, as well as, some brief repartee between us and the Schwartz.

On Old Men, Girls, and Monsters:

BT: If you would please tell me what it means to live "a very simple life, caveman-style, if you will?”

PS: Well, I seldom leave my house. If I do it's to go to the library, buy food, or have fumbling sex with the next woman I can charm off Craig's List. Safe to say, most practitioners of modern psychology would probably label me something like a shut-in, but I sure don't feel that way. I write poems and stories and make art and do interviews. All from my little chair. I also explore the vast possibilities of the Internet and when I'm done I'm sure I'll move on to the next thing.

Last week we were happy to share with you the very awesome Mel Bosworth Most Likely video and today we are quite excited to let you know that Ben has been interviewed by the quite cool Peter Schwartz as part of the really stellar Full of Crow PRATE interview series. Previous interviews include rock star writers Michael Kimball and Tim Hall and we are thrilled to be part if that line-up. We also hope you will take a look and as a wee teaser we offer you the following excerpt below:

B.T.: Great question, and very Zellweger of you. Here you go:

(1) I once wrote Parker Stevenson a fan letter and asked him his advice on how one goes about becoming an actor. I sent it to Teen Beat where he had a column during the 70’s. He never responded and years later when Kirstie Alley left him I felt vindicated.
(2) I auditioned for the role of the son in The Shining. They told me I didn’t seem creepy enough, something a number of women I dated in high school would later strongly disagree with.
(3) When I was kid my parents would leave my brother and I at movie theaters to watch movies two even three times in a row. Between showings I would eat the popcorn that people left behind and to this day I have an intense craving for stale popcorn every time I watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
