We are more travel. We are more read. And we are more small press love, though please note that today we are all Keyhole Pressall the time. First up, Pathologies by William Walsh. The William Walsh does humor, pop culture and sex as well as anyone in this collection, but one thing we are always struck by regardless of what we're reading of his, is Walsh's almost restless curiosity, which always seems to pop off the page, all fertile, authentic and vibrant. We would add, that this is the second collection this week we've read with a piece that was originally run in This Zine Will Change Your Life. In this case the terrific story Revision. Quite cool indeed. But we're not done, because we also have Wolf Parts by Matt Bell. Bell is also working the sex thing with this take on Little Red Riding Hood, and yet similar to his killer novella The Collectors, this is a story about compulsions, and despite the focus on Little Red Riding Hood, it's specifically about the sexual and arguably violent compulsions of men and how these compulsions not only warp men, but force women to react and mold themselves to these compulsions. Once again, good and interesting stuff across the board, and like the work of Tim Hall and Aaron Burch that we riffed on earlier this week, books we think just might change your life if you let them.

We would be excited enough if William or Keyhole were up to anything new, but together, most sweet, plus, the excerpt being used to represent the collection is a story called Revision which originally appeared in This Zine Will Change Your Life, most sweet indeed.
TBWCYL, Inc. favorite Matt Bell has a new minibook coming out from Keyhole Press called Wolf Parts. It is a "fragmentary re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood in forty short fictions," and we think its sound pretty cool indeed. We also think it just might change your life.
To begin we would like to say that from our vantage point Keyhole Press is having a very fine year. First came Questionstruck by TBWCYL, Inc. favorite William Walsh and now we get One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others by Stephanie Johnson. The books couldn't be more different, the former a lyrical, at times moving retextualization of the Calvin Trillin's work and the latter a captivating collection of short stories and flash fiction focused on mothers, fathers, daughters and loss. Still, both remind us of why we love to read, so big props all-around and many thanks to Stephanie for swapping books with us.
It would be accurate to say that this is not the first William Walsh shout-out here at headquarters this week. We did in fact just interview him and the Michael Fitzgerald for the Orange Alert Press Writer on Writer series. However, since we also mentioned that we planned to riff on William's new book Questionstruck when we finished it, and since we have now done just that, today we are here to riff. And here we go: Questionstruck is not just a loving, crazy, fragmented tribute to the work of Calvin Trillin, but a celebration of all things political, familial, edible, and textual, both dense and wonderful, and bordering on poetry. It can also be quite mesmerizing, so why not read it, and then spread the word, who knows, it just might change your life.
The new edition of This Zine Will Change Your Life is live and feeling Questionstruck. Or something like that. We have a new story, The Poet's Revise by William Walsh which we are way excited about, and, as always, photo action from Adam Lawrence, a music selection from Jason Behrends, and Crameresque prose love from Pete Anderson.We hope you enjoy this edition and we appreciate all shout-outs and links.
