"Vibrant." My Father's House gets Pank'd. And likes it. A lot.

Big thanks to the always stellarific [PANK] and long-time TBWCYL, Inc. favorite J.A. Tyler for the My Father's House review goodness and kind words. Drinks on us for all you kids when next we meet. Now, how about some excerpt? Sweet.

"This is a book that thrives on sadness and intimacy, following a father’s journey to death and his son’s somewhat reluctant trailing behind, putting both cancer and relationships on vibrant display. And while Tanzer is best known for his pop-culture references and quirky dialogue, My Father’s House is much more straight-laced in its approach, more refined in its handling of a narrative that is entirely genuine."

There is J.A. Tyler sophomore novel joint. And there is promise. Maybe the best promise. Ever.

Long time TBWCYL, Inc. favorite, This Zine Will Change Your Life contributor and This Podcast Will Change Your Life podcastee J.A. Tyler, yes that one, has a new joint out from fugue state press titled A Man of Glass & All the Ways We Have Failed and he is so confident in the words contained therein you he has made the best promise ever, seriously, ever, and we love him all the more for its awesome ballsyness. Is that how you spell that? Anyway, check it out:

"If you don't like my book I'll write you another book on the inside of that book. Order it, read it. If you don't like it, ship it back to me & I'll write a new book for you on the inside of that book. Yes. This is how much I believe in these words."

Did we lie? We did not, so hit it, because doing so just may change your life.

Interview Sundays? Not sure, either way, check out this fine even undeniably awesome interview with the J.A. Tyler.

We're thinking of a new feature "Interview Sundays" or maybe This Interview on this Sunday Will Change Your Life. Regardless, this is the second Sunday in a row we are posting about an interview with a writer who really excites us, in this case long time TBWCYL, Inc. favorite, This Podcast Will Change Your Life podcastee, and This Zine Will Change Your Life contributor J.A. Tyler talking about his new Mud Luscious Press imprint Nephew. So you know, enjoy some excerpt and then hit it.

ME: The first book is Darby Larson’s THE IGUANA COMPLEX. What should we know about this book?

Shit. Impossible to answer. It is fantastic, lickity, it fucks with language, tells stories in stories, builds characters who don’t exist, meta-metas the meta. There are portions that are unreadable, literally gone on the page, and there are portions I can’t stop reading out loud, even after I’ve read this book a dozen times. Larson is bleeding here in this book, the best kind of gore blood, and it pools on pages. Know that you want to read this book, it is worth every penny.

"His books drive us forward - we become propelled." You Can Make Him Like You gets Red Fez'd. And likes it. A lot.

TBWCYL, Inc. favorite and old friend J.A. Tyler has written a quite kind review of You Can Make Him Like You at the Red Fez and we are most appreciative, and quite humbled, big thanks bro, and coffee on us for sure when next we meet.

"
Tanzer, in a manner most mysterious to me, somehow harnesses the power of straight, conventional writing without the usual level of pandering or expositional obtuseness. The words say exactly what they mean, no more and no less, and thus his books drive us forward - we become propelled. The long answer is what I can’t articulate, because sometimes books just run as rivers, end in a place we aren’t looking for but simply arrive at. Story-tellers do this, around campfires, at dinner tables, in the car on long-drives. Tanzer does this in his books, and Artistically Declined Press was smart enough to pick up those words in
You Can Make Him Like You. "

Our Us & We. J.A. Tyler. Greying Ghost Press. Basta.

Our Us & We is the new joint from TBWCYL, Inc. favorite J.A. Tyler. It is forthcoming from Greying Ghost Press and we think you just might want to get on it, like now, because for one it is the Tyler, and two, we think it just might change your life. For real.

This (e-) Book (and novella) Will Change Your Life - When We Make Our Dinosaur and Inconceivable Wilson by J.A. Tyler.

Work. Travel. Read. And a double-dose of TBWCYL, Inc. favorite and This Zine Will Change Your Life contributor J.A. Tyler. We had somehow decided that we were supposed to read J.A.'s novella Inconceivable Wilson and e-book When We Make Our Dinosaur in tandem, and so we sat on them until work travel beckoned. What we found is that J.A.'s dizzying, full frontal, near stream of consciousness assault on what it means to lose oneself in relationships of all shapes and sizes continues, and while the former captures a sense of ongoing disintegration and deterioration, the latter eludes a sense of joy (which is only enhanced by the wonderful graphics) we haven't always encountered in his work. Now how much of this is due to J.A.'s take on fatherhood and how much of it is due to or our own projection as we read is not so clear to us, either way, we hope to see more of it going forward, because we think it will change your life as it has ours.

Rabbits revisited. Nice.

Check it out, TBWCYL, Inc. favorite J.A. Tyler's story Rabbits which was originally published in This Zine Will Change Your Life has been picked-up for the debut issue of Revisitations, the first journal dedicated to reprints. We are quite proud of J.A. and big fans of this piece, so if you think about it, this really is a win-win for everyone involved.

CCLaP. TwitLit. And Gunther Gebel.

The crew at CCLaP has created their first ever story series called TwitLit where they are looking to put their mark on the intersection between Twitter and literature. The first piece "Jack & Jill" by TBWCYL, Inc. favorite J.A. Tyler is already out, with pieces still to come from Deckfight's own Josh Spilker, Gwendolyn DeRosa and TBWCYL, Inc. spokesperson Ben Tanzer who will be riffing on loving the Gunther Gebel, which may mean many different things to many different people, but one thing it definitely means is that Pete Anderson can count on seeing far fewer photos of Richard Simmons for at least the foreseeable future.

Some things we are digging as we prepare to briefly drop off of the grid.

Fact, we are sort of mostly briefly dropping off of the grid this week. And so we sort of thought we should leave you with some stuff to read and/or contemplate during our time away.

Yes, we're just good like that.

First off, Stories II from the most excellent short story writer Scott McClanahan is due out soon. This is quite good news. The dude is the bomb. We loved Stories. And yes we love him as well and we are not embarrassed to say so.

We would add, that Scott has also recorded a piece from Stories II for the fine crew at Apostrophe Cast and it should be heard, so why not listen to it? They are even throwing in an interview for your reading pleasure. Enjoy.

The Nick Ostdick has a new piece titled True Hair up on STORYGLOSSIA. Yes, that STORYGLOSSIA. Please feel free to consume it. And yes we love him too.

Meanwhile, for the record, feel free to assume that all writers, and publishers, referenced going forward are loved by the staff here at TBWCYL, Inc. We say, so we don't have to sound repetitive. We also say this, because how many times can you say love something before it grows stale?

This is a no stale zone. Cool?

There is a fine interview with Ken Wohlrob at Emprise Review.

And we have alternative cover and pre-order action for the Fox Force 5 collection from Paper Hero Press. Very good.

Robert Duffer has a most excellent piece on the most excellent Jason Behrends and Orange Alert at Time Out Chicago.

The Collin Kelley has a conversation with singer Vannessa Daou at soldout.

We get to learn Mel Bosworth's Best of 2009 at the Big Other.

The J.A. Tyler's novella Inconceivable Wilson from Scrambler Books is now available for pre-order. Nice.

The Pete Anderson has a series of wonderful short story reviews at the Pete Lit including pieces by TBWCYL, Inc. favorites Spencer Dew, William Walsh and the always something Kendra Grant Malone.

David Masciotra has a killer piece on the progressive politics of Tim McGraw at the Daily Yonder.

And finally, Tim Hall brings us new Uplift the Positivicals. Can you say, Santa on the beach? We thought you could.

Stuff.

Maybe its the work travel. Or the fact that we have been so self-absorbed lately. It could just be the fact that we have been unable to concentrate on anything but the once imminent now very real release of New Moon. But things have been missed, stuff has been overlooked and an array of TBWCYL, Inc. favorites have not received the airspace here they deserve. We however intend to fix that like now:

(1) Sally Weigel the author of Too Young to Fall Asleep recently did a fine interview with the Orange Alert;

(2) The J.A. Tyler has a recording and interview with the always awesome Apostrophe Cast; and

(3) Our boy Mel Bosworth's new collection of short stories and flash fiction When The Cats Razzed the Chicken & Other Stories is now officially available for your consumption.

This is good stuff, right, totally, you don't even need to answer that, just check it out, all of it, immediately, because it just might change your life. For reals.

I Am Richard Simmons.

We should begin by saying that TBWCYL, Inc. spokesperson Ben Tanzer's ml press chapbook I am richard simmons has arrived here at headquarters along with more introductions to a book I will never finish by mark baumer and boots walking in america found a trophy by krammer abrahams. We should add that despite the fact that we did not receive a new chapbook by Kendra Grant Malone we are still quite happy. Many thanks to the ml press crew and drinks on us for sure when next we get together.

hoang. malone. tidhar. ml press. booyah.

The September ml press trio is live and ready for your perusal and purchase. As always these stories are full of vivid images, with this batch particularly focused on relationships on the brink of madness and implosion. We would add, that while it may go without saying that all of three of these pieces are rich and Tylerian in nature, unfortunate title aside, we do want to give a special shout-out to rape children by kendra grant malone.

Hamilton. Davis. Wilson. The July ml press trifectorate is in the house. Technically, its in the office, but that just doesn't flow right, you know?

Uh-huh. We got new ml press love in the mail and we are quite pleased, or is it sated? Not sure, but its probably not sated, because we are never sated when it comes to reading. Anyway, we have the July trio - so dark in the wolf's maw by kevin wilson, where we go when we leave by craig davis and from the hip by TBWCYL, Inc. favorite mary hamilton - all of which include references to knives among other things and, like their predecessors in this fine series, are short on dialogue and long on mood, vibe and tone. Very Tylerian in other words and good stuff all-around for sure. We would add, that if you just cannot get enough Hamilton, and who can, we ran a fine inauguration-centric piece of hers in This Zine Will Change Your Life, which like the work of ml press just might change your life.

The ml press July trio is in the house, er, office, and it is the love.

There is mail and in that mail is a package from ml press. In that package is a trio of tasty literary delights rife with vivid imagery and endless compulsion. These delights are a thousand & one others by elizabeth ellen, thunderstorm as familial convulsion by ryan call and parts by molly gaudry an excerpt from the novel(la) WE TAKE ME APART which is forthcoming from the press in December. We think these delights should be consumed by you. Soon, even now. We also think that they just might change your life.

Tyler and Bengelsdorf publishing madness. Or, if you prefer, a This Zine Will Change Your Life contributors update.

We are quite geeked to share two excellent pieces of publishing news from This Zine Will Change Your Life contributors J.A. Tyler and Tobias Amadon Bengelsdorf. First off, long-time friend and TBWCYL, Inc. favorite J.A. Tyler and his kick-ass ml press are not only gearing-up to mail out the next round of ml press chapbooks, but are mass-producing Charles Lennox's A FIELD OF COLORS, which having consumed it during the weekend, we would like to be sure you know is quite a gem, sad and wonderful all at once. Meanwhile, the Bengelsdorf has a quite cool new joint in the works. It is a collection of "handmade cards, books and ketchup" titled An Implausibilty of Gnus from Chicago's very own Another New Calligraphy who we think we are kind of digging. A lot. Anyway, nice work gentlemen and the rest of you, and you know who you are, please take a look, it will definitely be appreciated and it just may change your life.

The new edition of This Zine Will Change Your Life is live and repeating on us. Or something like that.

The new edition of This Zine Will Change Your Life is live and repeating on us. Or something like that. We have a new story, Rabbits by J.A. Tyler, our first repeat writer, which we are way excited about, and, as always, photo action from Adam Lawrence, a music selection from Jason Behrends, and surprising Wells Fargo prose love from Pete Anderson. We hope you enjoy this edition and we appreciate all shout-outs and links. Finally, please note, that we are temporarily closed for submissions. And it's not you, we love you, it's us. Well actually, it is you and all of your wonderful submissions. But we still love you. For real. That said, we are re-opening for submissions on May 1st, so stay-tuned, way tuned.

Tanzer is developing a further depth to his writing with each work. Repetition Patterns gets mud luscious'd and likes it. A lot.

Big thanks to J.A. Tyler and the crew at mud luscious for their very kind review of Repetition Patterns in the new edition of this most excellent of literary zines. We are much appreciative and have even posted a snippet below for your viewing pleasure. Please have at it, and J.A., drinks are on us for sure when next we cross paths.

"Tanzer is developing a further depth to his writing with each work, even the revisions of previously published works. Pay attention; we are learning."
