“The Following are Pages Torn from our Most Favorite Imaginary Books”

A group show brought to you by OHNO!Doom & Josh Lucas.

February 13th, 2010, 6pm-10pm

An entire city looses the ability to communicate with each other. A boy struggles with an oddly tangible past. Dolphins parade with jazz musicians, lighting bugs dance, and squichons appear in this first installment of the highly ambitious and visually stunning Torn Pages Show.

OHNO!Doom is proud to bring you “The Following are Pages Torn from our Most Favorite Imaginary Books”, the first of the long-anticipated annual Torn Pages shows. Curated by Josh Lucas, this collection of imaginative, funny, and original children’s stories, written by some of Chicago’s finest writers and illustrated by artists of the same caliber. Writer/artist pairings include: Joe Meno and Cody Hudson; Zach Dodson and Allison Burque; Tim Hall and Ryan Young; Jenah Garrett and Stacey Earley; Ben Tanzer and Dominique Holmes; Nancy Khurana and Ruben Aguirre Jr.; Jill Summers and Andrew Thompson; Amy Guth and Pea-Be; Max Bare and Alex Willan; Lindsey Markel and Jason Brammer; Jaime Calder and Joe Call, and James Kennedy.

The opening for “The Following are Pages Torn from our Most Favorite Imaginary Books”, will take place on Saturday, February 13th, 2010, from 6pm-10pm, and will run through the end of the month. The show is hosted by OHNO!Doom, whose new location at 1800 N. Milwaukee Ave., just south of the Western Avenue blue line stop.

The Torn Pages show gets some love from The Gapers Block. Yes, that Gapers Block.

How cool is this? As mentioned here previously TBWCYL, Inc. spokesperson Ben Tanzer is thrilled to be participating in the Torn Pages art show here in Chicago. The show is bringing together 11 Chicago writers and artists to write and illustrate "pages torn from our most favorite imaginary books." If all that wasn't cool enough though, Torn Pages just got a big shout-out from the Gapers Block. Yes, that Gapers Block. As we said, quite cool, yes? Yes, as is the above illustration by the quite awesome Dominique Arianne Holmes which will accompany our story "Flight." Meanwhile, the show is set debut some time in early 2010, but in the interim we wanted to remind you that our intrepid curator Josh Lucas is trying to raise money on the KICKSTARTER to turn the stories and illustrations into a book. Yes, a real book. That said, no pressure, we just wanted you to know.

The Torn Pages Show. 11 Chicago artists. 11 Chicago writers. Will be cool. Quite cool. Though some funding is needed. Are you in? Maybe?

The Torn Pages Show is coming, The Torn Pages Show is coming. No, we don't know exactly when, but we are excited to be participating. For this show the inestimable Josh Lucas is teaming with 11 Chicago writers, including many TBWCYL, Inc. favorites, including Jill Summers, Joe Meno, Tim Hall, Jamie Calder, Amy Guth, Zach Dodson and our very own spokesperson Ben Tanzer, and 11 Chicago artists, including among others the quite rocking Allison Dunne Burque and Dominique Holmes, to write and illustrate original children's stories that will be presented by the OhNo! Doom Collective in a gallery show. We think it will be quite cool, but If all that wasn't cool enough though for you, Josh is also hoping to collect the work in a perfect-bound, full color book and this is where you may or may not come in. Josh is using KICKSTARTER to raise the funds needed to produce the book and if you think you may want to support this effort please do take a look. Maybe you can take a look regardless, and maybe, just maybe, it will change your life, if only briefly.
