Wow. Pride of Baghdad. Awesome. Way. Moving. Totally.
The title of today's post is somewhat less lengthy and emo than some of our recent posts, but no less effusive in intent. I took some time away from my endless, yet stimulating, role as spokesperson for Lucky Man, Inc. to read the graphic novel "Pride of Baghdad," which was put out by DC Comics, and written by Brian K. Vaughan, with art by Niko Henrichon. It's based on the true story of four lions that escaped the Baghdad Zoo during the bombing of Iraq in 2003. The comic follows their journey from their perspective and its beautiful and awesome. I only intended to start it, but could not put it down and swallowed it whole in one sitting. The art is fantastic, bursting with color. The characters are enthralling, with back stories and real lives lived. And the story is wonderful, glorious, and painful all at once, with an ending that is as moving as anything you will read this year. Check it out. It will change your life. Seriously.

Hey Ben,
I just met the editor Will Dennis last night! He's an Ithaca native, and he's in town for the local comics show tomorrow. I'll tell him you liked Pride.
Later!
