Whenever we think about TBWCYL, Inc. favorite and This Zine Will Change Your Life contributor Corey Mesler a phrase always comes to mind, you sir are a gentleman, a scholar and a fine judge of liquor. And it was no different as we read the poems in Some Identity Problems, except that we were also reminded of the fact that no one writes about males like Mesler does; males and females, males and writing, males and their relationships with their children and God and even themselves. Mesler just knows dudes, and unlike Ben Stiller's character in Greenberg, Mesler knows Mesler and his writing is all the better for it.

We have been wanting to give them a shout-out sooner than this, but definitely found ourselves compelled to do so today after we saw that they had interviewed long-time TBWCYL, Inc. favorite and This Zine Will Change Your Life contributor Corey Mesler. Two of TBWCYL, Inc.'s favorite writers are Chicago's own Tim Hall and Corey Mesler out of Memphis, both of whom we have been lucky enough to publish in This Zine Will Change Your Life. In a most cool confluence of events, both not only have new pieces out, Tim at the Outsider Writers Collective and Corey at The Battered Suitcase, but both have new interviews out as well, Tim with the Texas Pan-American, the transcript of which is on his excellent blog Does This Font Make Me Look Fat? and Corey with our good friends at What To Wear During An Orange Alert. Both Tim and Corey are really fascinating dudes, who have led really interesting lives; both are great writers and both are maybe a little too far off of the reading public's radar as far as we are concerned. So, all this is to say, that we hope you will take a look at their writing and their words, because we're pretty sure that doing so will change your life, at least a little, which last we checked isn't bad for an otherwise slow Sunday, right? Right.

So VAIN, so geeked.

Are we so geeked that the Fall 2008 issue of VAIN magazine that we here at TBWCYL, Inc. had the opportunity to guest edit is like totally available? Yes we are. Are we thrilled that the whole crew from This Zine Will Change Your Life had the chance to participate in this project as well? Way. Are we especially happy that there is work published in this issue by many of our favorite writers at the zine - J.A. Tyler, S. Craig Renfroe, Jr., Jill Summers, Corey Mesler, Chad Halliday? Totally. And is there anything else to say? Yes, many thanks VAIN, working on this was a lot of fun and we are very grateful for the opportunity.

J. Kaye Oldner of the kick-ass J. Kaye's book blog invited TBWCYL, Inc. spokesperson Ben Tanzer to guest blog today, which he has done, and despite his great desire to endlessly and shamelessly feed his massive ego and talk on and on about his writing prowess and massive successes, we here at headquarters decided that it might be more appropriate to temper that a bit and focus on all of the wonderful writers, bloggers and friends, new and old, we have met, connected and re-connected with during the last year as Lucky Man has shown some legs and Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine has found a home and been released. Which is not to say we didn't take a moment to hype our awseomeness, or stroke our beloved narcissism, just that we thought we would cast the net a little more widely. We are quite pleased to announce that This Zine Will Change Your Life has won VAIN magazine's spring "zine fest" contest and in doing so not only are two of TZWCYL 's contributors, Corey Mesler and J.A. Tyler, being featured in VAIN's summer 2008 issue, which is out now, hand-made, and sweet, but air traffic controller Ben Tanzer has been invited to serve as a guest editor for the fall 2008 issue. Pretty, pretty cool. Many thanks to VAIN and many congratulations to our writers and the whole crew at TZWCYL, it's definitely a group effort and you guys all rock it.

Would we be telling you the truth if we said we weren't terribly crushed not to have TBWCYL, Inc. spokesperson Ben Tanzer's story PaintLifeDeathArt (Sketches from a life in art) not make the storySouth Million Writers Award Notable Stories of 2007 list because we truly believe its just nice to be nominated? We would not. Are we also terribly overjoyed however to see so many friends of TBWCYL, Inc. make this list? We most definitely are.
